Marae
In the wider Halcombe community there are four active marae at Taumata o te Ra, Te Hiiri, Tokorangi and Poupatate.
Historically a number of other marae were also active in the area, particularly near the Rangitikei River.
Each marae is affiliated to different iwi and hapū that settled in this area.
The Halcombe Community Development Group is currently working with local Māori to gather
and present more detailed information about local Māori history and the stories
of their marae and their respective iwi, hapū and whānau.
The following are brief notes on each of the marae, with links to Māori Maps, a useful online resource.
